Internship Program logoThe Kappa Alpha Order Internship Program was created in 2004 to provide deserving undergraduates with the desire to become better educated and informed on both the public and private sectors of our national government. In addition, this program will give undergraduates the opportunity to gain professional work experience while living in Washington, D.C.. The Kappa Alpha Order Internship Program provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to any interested Kappa Alpha Order undergraduate. The internship, living and working in Washington, D.C., and interacting with other interns from across the country, provides an everlasting experience.

Internship Dates: May 25th through the end of July

Interns will travel to their internship city for training, orientation, and move into their summer housing.  Interns will participate with alumni networking events, social events with various groups, Political fundraising events, workshops, personal development opportunities and the Annual Chiefs of Staff Luncheon.

Internship Requirements

Applicants must be an initiated active member and 21 years old at the time the internship begins on May 25th.

How are the interns selected?

The Kappa Alpha Order Internship Committee selects a pool of applicants based on their application.  Then the committee schedules phone interviews to finalize the list to five interns per city.  Internship selections will most likely be finalized no later than January.

How are the internships selected for the Interns?

Interns are placed into premier internships based on their future career plans and/or interests.  Several KA alumni assist with internships for U.S. Senators and Congressmen, Lobbyists, Political Fundraisers, businesses, legal firms, the financial sector, health care industry, marketing firms, and other career-related fields.  Sometimes two internships are provided for an intern to give them different experiences.

What does KA provide for the interns?

Interns will receive transportation to and from the internship and lodging in their internship city.  Interns are responsible for all other costs and most internships are not paid.

About E. Fleming Mason

E Fleming MasonThe internship program honors E. Fleming Mason, an initiate of Beta Pi Chapter at Presbyterian College in 1929, Commander for John Temple Graves Province (South Carolina) from 1962 to 1975, and Preceptor of the Graves Court of Honor. E. Fleming Mason was the first director of the South Carolina highway patrol in the late 1930′s and then made his career with the FBI until he retired in 1968. After his retirement, he served the province as the Preceptor of the Graves Court of Honor. Until his death in 1987, Brother Mason was extremely active in the affairs of the Order. He was a fixture at many Graves Province chapter functions. He worked tirelessly to promote the Order’s ideals and was instrumental in helping numerous KAs find summer employment and potential careers after graduation.
