Seventy-eight KAs, their spouses/girlfriends, five representatives from WCU, and the Executive Director and Knight Commander of Kappa Alpha Order, gathered at Waynesville Inn for the weekend of August 9-11, 2024, to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Delta Alpha Chapter at Western Carolina.

The weekend started with many Brothers playing golf on Friday followed by the Friday evening cookout. The food and beverages were wonderful, but more importantly, the infectious smiles and laughter that took over the back porch area of the Inn.

Saturday started with more golf for many, while others visited downtown Waynesville or made the short trip to Cullowhee. The evening’s festivities started at 4:30 pm, and while pushed for time, everything went well. Four days before the event, we found out the Chancellor of WCU would be able to attend, but in order to do so, we had to change the order of our schedule, as she other commitments later that evening. Thus, we held the program first, followed by a short photo session. A delicious meal was shared, and the evening was closed by enjoying some music and entertainment by Steve Weams and the Caribbean Cowboys.

Delta Alpha Chapter was blessed to be able to share Saturday’s events with the Kappa Alpha Order’s Knight Commander King Aiken and his wife Ellen, and Executive Director Larry Wiese and his wife Dawn.

Representatives from WCU included Kelli Brown (Chancellor), Jamie Raynor (Special Campaign Advisor), Ben Pendry (Vice Chancellor of Advancement), Stacy Miller (Director of Alumni Engagement) and Alex Gary (Director of Athletics).

Skip Smith and Knight Commander AikenLocke W. “Skip” Smith, Jr. (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’80) was bestowed the Knight Commander’s Accolade by Knight Commander King V. Aiken, Jr. (Kappa–Mercer ’83), the highest individual honor an alumnus can receive.
