Western Carolina University recently announced that Paul C. Johnson (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’77) will be recognized with the Alumni Award for Professional Achievement at its upcoming Chancellor’s Brunch and Alumni Awards on Saturday, November 5, 2022, during Homecoming Weekend.
The Alumni Award for Professional Achievement recognizes an alumnus who has attained extraordinary distinction and success in a career field outside of academe and who has demonstrated exceptional and sustained community leadership.
Paul served as the head football coach at Georgia Southern University from 1997 to 2001, the U.S. Naval Academy from 2002 to 2007, and Georgia Tech, from 2008 to 2018. Johnson’s Georgia Southern Eagles won consecutive NCAA Division I-AA Football Championships in 1999 and 2000. He is noted for his use of the flexbone spread option offense.
