Nine-time PGA Tour champion Brandt Snedeker (Chi-Vanderbilt ’00) has been named the 2024 recipient of the Payne Stewart Award, an award given by the PGA Tour and presented by Southern Company. Named in honor of World Golf Hall of Famer Payne Stewart, the award is, according to Wikipedia, “given to a player whose values align with the character, charity and sportsmanship that Stewart showed. This includes respect for the traditions of the game, commitment to uphold the game’s heritage of charitable support and professional and meticulous presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct.”
Snedeker, who was an all-conference golfer throughout his college years at Vanderbilt, has nine PGA Tour championships, among other championships and accolades. Sometimes noted for his animated behavior on the course when he hits a winning shot, the Nashville native’s Snedeker Foundation supports both social and athletic youth programs across Middle Tennessee. Coincidentally, Snedeker’s family hails from Springfield, Missouri, which is also the hometown of the late Payne Stewart.
