Calvin Michael Moniz (Mu–Tulsa ’04), a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and current board member representing District 2, has been unanimously elected Vice President of the Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education with a 7-0 vote. His election underscores the board’s confidence in his commitment to student-centered leadership and responsible governance in one of Oklahoma’s largest and most diverse public school districts.

Moniz brings to the board’s executive leadership a professional background in law, business, and human resources, as well as over a decade of experience in higher education and workforce development. Since joining the board, he has focused on strengthening academic outcomes, retaining educators, and restoring public trust in the district’s operations.

“I am honored to serve as Vice President of the Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education,” said Moniz. “This is a defining time for public education in our state. I believe we have a responsibility to lead with integrity, to listen to our communities, and to ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education.”

His election comes as Tulsa Public Schools continues efforts to stabilize operations and improve student performance districtwide. In a recent Tulsa World letter to the editor, TPS teacher Elizabeth McCrary offered support for Moniz’s leadership, writing:

“Tulsa’s students, families and educators deserve a future defined by progress, not by the failures of the past. With Calvin Moniz as board president, Tulsa Public Schools will have the leader it needs to move forward.”

As Vice President, Moniz will support the board president in setting strategic priorities, facilitating effective governance, and representing the board in matters requiring leadership collaboration and public engagement. He remains a consistent advocate for transparency, community voice, and educational excellence across the state.

Moniz is 12-year member of the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation’s Crimson & Gold Society,  Alumnus Advisor for the Mu Chapter, and Vice President of the Mu Alumni Chapter.
