Temple College Dedicates Basketball Court to Honor Texas Tech Alumnus and Legendary Coach Kirby Johnson

The dedication took place in the college’s Watson Technical Center, symbolizing a well-deserved recognition for Coach Johnson’s remarkable influence on Temple College, its students, and the local community.

A Storied Legacy
Kirby Johnson’s (Gamma Chi–Texas Tech ’73) journey with Temple College began in 1988, and over his 35-year career as head coach, he became a central figure in the athletic department. Known for his motivational leadership, passion for the game, and deep care for his players, Johnson made an indelible mark on Temple’s men’s basketball program. His legacy includes not only over 600 wins but also numerous region and conference championships, cementing him as one of the most successful coaches in junior college basketball history.
