Starting an Alumni Chapter is Easy as 1-2-3!

Kappa Alpha Order is a lifetime experience, and the fraternal experience does not end after college. Alumni chapters are a great way to extend the KA experience far past the undergraduate years. To find an alumni chapter near you, view the Alumni Chapter Listing.

If you are interested in starting an alumni chapter, the process is as easy as 1-2-3.

#1 - Reach Out & Gauge Interest

The first step is to get alumni in the area excited to join. Start by sending out a few emails to alumni in your area and by following up with phone calls. Just like in recruitment as an undergraduate, have those who are excited for the new alumni chapter to help you make phone calls.

Contact the National Administrative Office at (540) 463-1865 for a current listing of all alumni in your area.

#2 Have an Initial Meeting

One you have a good group of interested alumni, schedule a meeting for everyone to get together. This can be at a local restaurant, someone’s house, or any other location. You may rent a room somewhere like a country club, but it is not required.  At this meeting, you should elect officers (president and secretary at a minimum, but vice-president and treasurer are also common), agree upon a name (region or city are good. However, it can not be named after a specific chapter, university, or individual), and approve Alumni Chapter Bylaws (see sample bylaws). You should also discuss what types of activities the group wants to engage in or host (Convivium, golf outings, happy hours, etc).

#3 Apply for Charter

Submit the Alumni Chapter Application form online and submit the Alumni Chapter Chartering Fee of $500 which includes biennial alumni chapter dues of $300 (covers June 1 to May 31).

Once we have received the application, bylaws, and fees, the Executive Director will review it, and, if the Knight Commander approves, the alumni chapter will be established. Then, we will assist the alumni chapter in obtaining an EIN.
