South Alabama Brother Receives Scholarship from Order of Omega

Order of Omega

Luke Sparkman (Epsilon Alpha–South Alabama ’23) recently received the Dr. Kent L. Gardner National Scholarship from the Order of Omega. He was one of the 106 students out of 197 applications who was awarded a share of $50,000. The late Dr. Gardner (Gamma Kappa–Oklahoma City, 1960) served as Executive Director for the Order of Omega for more than 40 years and was a recipient of Kappa Alpha Order’s Accolade for Interfraternal Service in 1985.

Order of Omega is a Greek honorary organization recognizing the top 5% of individuals on fraternity and sorority community. The Scholarship Program was established to recognize academic achievements, participation and leadership in campus organizations, citizenship, and service to Order of Omega and the campus community. The scholarship program is intended to support their academic endeavors. Since 1985, Order of Omega has awarded over 1.6 million dollars in undergraduate scholarships.

“Receiving a scholarship is not only a testament to his academic endeavors but acknowledges the impact he has on his campus community,” Order of Omega Executive Director Mardie Sorensen commented. “Luke’s dedication and commitment to serve is an inspiration to others, and I have no doubt that he excels within the fraternity. He is a wonderful representatives not only for his chapter but of Kappa Alpha Order.”

From Jasper, Alabama, Luke is a rising junior majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in pre-professional health and with minors in chemistry and applied sciences. He has served in student government, philanthropic organizations, and the pre-health club. He currently serves as a Southerner, one of the university’s 28 ambassadors, works as a resident assistant, and is a member of the Honors College.

He has served his chapter on several committees and as Number V (Historian), and was named the 2023 Greek New Member of the Year and was inducted into the Order of Omega.

“KA and specifically the Epsilon Alpha chapter has provided me with numerous opportunities and constantly poured into me since my initiation,” Luke commented. “I look forward  to the next two years of such a special time to be a brother of the Epsilon Alpha chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order.”
