The Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation (KAOEF) is honored to announce that the family of D. Ben Graves (Rho–South Carolina ’93), has established a scholarship through the KAOEF specifically for active members of Rho Chapter at the University of South Carolina.
The Ben Graves Memorial Scholarship honors Former Number II of Rho Chapter Ben Graves. Ben grew up in Camden, South Carolina and graduated from the USC Honors College in 1996 and USC School of Law in 2000. Following graduation, Ben worked for the McNair Law Firm before beginning a career in real estate development and ultimately launching a multifamily division for a national development corporation where he served as president for 12 years. Ben established his own real estate development company, Longbranch Development, which focused on multifamily development projects throughout the southeast. Ben was a devoted husband and father and a dedicated community servant, embodying all of the values and characteristics of a KA brother. He cherished his time in the KA house at Rho Chapter and remained close with many of his chapter brothers.
It is only fitting that this scholarship carry on his legacy and be awarded annually to a brother(s) who embodies those same qualities and characteristics of integrity, compassion and generosity.
KA thanks his wife, Carter N. Graves and sons, Houston (Rho–South Carolina ’22) and Gibson (Rho–South Carolina ’24). By establishing this scholarship, they allow the KAOEF to carry on Ben’s wonderful legacy as a true KA brother and friend by supporting KA brothers of Rho chapter in their pursuit of a college degree. This scholarship will be first awarded in Spring 2025.
