After realizing how much food was being thrown away in Greek houses each night, William Grand (Alpha Gamma–Louisiana State ’21) decided to find a purpose for the leftover food. Grand established Giving Greek, an on-campus organization to turn leftover food from Greek Row into thousands of meals for the homeless.
“We want to bridge the gap between the community and Greek Life. We felt like there was a little bit of a disconnect. I came across this idea two years ago and it has really fostered into something much bigger than I ever thought it would be,” said Grand.
Every week, Greek members collect all extra food and deliver it to the Saint Vincent de Paul Homeless Shelter. Throughout the past two years, Giving Greek has donated more than 6,000 meals to the shelter.
