Friday, November 8, 2024, the Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in partnership with the Acadiana Alumni Association, proudly hosted the 10th Annual Dewitt David Golf Tournament at The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette, Louisiana. This milestone event brought together active members, alumni, and supporters for a day of fellowship and fundraising, marking a decade of commitment to supporting the chapter’s housing needs.
The event was orchestrated by dedicated brothers Jon Gravois, Sonny Scruggs, Kendall North, Aden Keter, and Griffin Guy. Their hard work paid off, as the tournament attracted an impressive turnout with 26 teams of four golfers competing on the course. Fundraising efforts for the day were aimed at the chapter’s housing corporation, supporting vital costs like insurance, renovations, maintenance, utilities, and Wi-Fi to ensure a high-quality environment for Gamma Phi members.
Fundraising extended beyond team entries with creative sponsorship opportunities. The chapter secured 18 sponsorships for flag sticks and an additional 21 tee-box sponsorships, thanks to the enthusiastic support of local businesses and alumni. Combined, these efforts raised just over $23,000 for the chapter’s housing fund. Generous alumni also contributed by donating food and beverages, adding to the day’s camaraderie and strengthening the ties of brotherhood.
Thanks to the leadership of the event planners, the Acadiana Alumni Association, and the support of alumni and sponsors, the 10th Annual Dewitt David Golf Tournament not only achieved its financial goals but also demonstrated the powerful bond within the Kappa Alpha Order community. As Gamma Phi celebrates a decade of this beloved tradition, it looks forward to many more years of partnership, support, and shared success in Lafayette.
