The J. Michael Duncan Province Court of Honor held its inaugural induction ceremony on Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at the Royal Oaks Country in Dallas, Texas. More than one hundred and fifty brothers and friends gathered to celebrate our beloved Kappa Alpha Order and those distinguished alumni who have given their time, energy, and service to KA.
One of the ways we honor loyal brothers who have both remained connected and served the Order is through a Court of Honor, a province organization that began in 1930. Dedicated alumni who have given their time, energy, and service to KA, or who have brought credit to themselves and to the Order in their public or private lives are inducted and recognized at formal ceremonies. Today, each of the Order’s fourteen provinces has its own distinctive Court of Honor. More than 2,500 brothers have been inducted into a Court of Honor since inception.
On July 29, 2022, the Advisory Council met at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas, and voted to reconstitute several provinces. The pre-existing provinces of Mikell (northern Texas) and Walsh (southern Texas) were reconstituted to the entire state of Texas. Pursuant to the Order’s Constitution, Knight Commander C. Douglas Simmons III named this province the J. Michael Duncan Province in honor of our 38th Knight Commander.
For insignia, each Court utilizes its own Provincial Cross, distinguished from one another by unique provincial colors. The J. Michael Duncan Province utilizes a gold and crimson cross on a crimson cord.
The induction ceremony was performed by 38th Knight Commander J. Michael “Mike” Duncan (Delta Kappa–Stephen F. Austin State ’69) and 32nd Knight Commander Dr. Idris R. Traylor, Jr. (Gamma Chi–Texas Tech ’70), acting as preceptor and registrar respectively.
