After coaching high school football in Rockwell, Texas for more than a decade, Sean C. Hill (Gamma Upsilon–Texas A&M-Commerce ’00) followed his nose and switched to competitive barbecue.
“The practices smell better,” Hill said, “and at the end of it, you get to eat what you work on all day.”
After three years in the new career, Hill coached his team, the 205 Pitmasters Team Smoke from Rockwall Independence School District’s Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy, to their first state championship. They were named grand champion out of 92 teams that competed in the 2023 Texas High School BBQ State Championship.
