Delta Alpha Chapter Restored at Western Carolina University

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, Knight Commander King V. Aiken, Jr. (Kappa–Mercer ’83) re-issued the Delta Alpha Charter to the gentlemen of the Western Carolina University Provisional Chapter. The ceremony and banquet were held in the Grand Room of A.K. Hinds University Center on campus and were well attended by alumni, parents, staff, and volunteers.

Since the provisional chapter was established on September 17, 2022, the provisional chapter has worked to recruit thirty-one (31) members while achieving a 3.18 Fall 2023 grade point average. Members have been involved with philanthropy and service efforts within the Norman community and on campus. Throughout the course of the last academic year, the members have completed 216 hours of service in the communities of Sylva and Cullowhee. The chapter has raised $600 for The Independence Fund. Members of the Provisional Chapter are involved on campus in various clubs and organizations. A member serves on the executive board of the Soccer Club. Other organizations in which members participate include Business Club, Construction Management Club, Engineering Club, and Student Government Association.

At the banquet Executive Director Larry Stanton Wiese (Gamma Omega–Midwestern State ’87) welcomed all attendees and gave opening remarks, Alumnus Advisor Jace F. Stowe (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’81) led the pledge of allegiance, and Councilor Robert H. Wall (Tau–Wake Forest ’95) gave the invocation.  Following dinner,  Number I Andrew L. “Drew” Maybin (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’23) gave an address from the Chapter, and Senior Councilor James M. Schmuck (Alpha Eta–Westminster ’69) installed the chapter officers with Smith Province  Commander Dustin G. Brann (Alpha Omega–North Carolina State ’11) presented them with their officer jewels. To conclude the evening, Knight Commander Aiken gave his remarks and presented the Delta Alpha Charter and Assistant Executive Director for Alumni Affairs Jesse S. Lyons (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’98)  gave a toast in memory of longtime chapter advisor J. Baxter Wood (Delta Alpha–Western Carolina ’64) and provided the benediction.

The Chapter Members were initiated on Friday, March 15 at the Asheville Masonic Temple by members of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter at the University of West Florida and members of the National Administrative Staff.
