John N. “Nicky” McCarter, Jr. (Delta Omicron–Clemson ’75) was recently named by Clemson University as one of its 2025 Pillars of the Community, a prestigious honor recognizing distinguished fraternity and sorority alumni who exemplify leadership, service, and lifelong commitment to their alma mater.

The recognition is presented annually by Clemson’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The 2025 cohort includes only ten individuals whose enduring support and engagement have impacted the Clemson community and beyond.

McCarter, a respected business and civic leader in South Carolina, has served in various influential roles, including a term on the South Carolina Public Service Commission. He is also a former member of Clemson’s Board of Trustees and has consistently championed initiatives that support student leadership and campus development.

McCarter is an 8-year member of the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation’s Crimson & Gold Society and has been inducted into the Frampton Province Court of Honor. His son, Cole, is a 2012 initiate of the Delta Omicron Chapter.

Clemson University will formally recognize the 2025 Pillars during a special ceremony as part of Greek Week celebrations.
