Matthew J. Sicuranza
Awarded: Knight Commander’s Medal – March 7, 2009
Matthew J. Sicuranza was recognized at the 75th Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Because the award was not fully established, Matthew was given a special sword in lieu of a yet to be designed official medal.
Matthew J. “Matt” Sicuranza, Number I of Beta Rho Chapter, responded to a situation in which a new-member had done too much celebrating at a non-KA event and instead of ignoring the situation as many might have done, he recognized the danger, followed the brother home and determined that he had consumed enough alcohol that his life could be in danger.
Sicuranza decided to take him to the hospital, where he was placed in the ICU. He then contacted the young man’s parents and stayed until they arrived and their son’s condition improved. The new member was released from the hospital two days later in good condition and was later initiated by the chapter.
“In all likelihood, this brother owes Matt Sicuranza his life, and we owe Matt our gratitude for being a hero who was willing to go the extra mile and do what he vowed to do as a fellow brother,” said Knight Commander Duncan upon bestowing the award to Sicuranza.
